How to Lower Your Cholesterol

One easy way to lower your cholesterol is to add more fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet. Fruits and vegetables contain natural fiber, which has been shown in numerous studies to have a remarkable cholesterol-lowering effect.

Americans eat far too few fruits and vegetables, and that could be one reason why they have higher instances of obesity, high cholesterol, heart disease, and many other problems than people from most other countries.

Citizens in nations where more fresh fruits and vegetables and more whole grains are consumed generally have better overall coronary health. Fruits and vegetables are great to add to your diet, because they help keep you full without adding too many calories.

Most fruits and vegetables are low in calories, and most contain little or no fat. This means that you can practically eat all you want without worrying about how many calories you’re consuming. You can stay full, and you don’t have to worry about hunger causing you to overeat foods that are bad for you.

Are You a Grown-Up Who Still Hates Eating Your Fruits and Veggies?

Many people don’t eat many fruits or vegetables because they have memories of being forced to eat them as a child, and never developed a taste for them. But it could be that they just haven’t yet found the right ones and you need to learn how to cook for lower cholesterol.

Some people discover that they didn’t really like some of the produce they grew up eating, but their taste buds welcomed the flavor in adulthood. This is why it’s important to experiment with new and exotic fruits and vegetables.

You should also try preparing them in ways you’ve never tried before. For example, if the only asparagus you’ve ever tried was that musty stuff from a can, you should try it prepared fresh, by streaming or roasting with some olive oil and herbs.

Many of those who claim they don’t like fruits and vegetables are simply tired of the limited variety that they have in their diet. If your idea of variety is having frozen peas instead of canned, then you might want to try something new.

Try These Cholesterol Lowering Foods!

Some vegetables that you may not have tried that can help you improve your hdl and lower your ldl cholesterol include jicama, asparagus, okra, artichokes, arugula, beets, daikon, rutabaga, fennel, butternut squash, and parsnips.

Fruits that you may not have tried include mango, papaya, figs, guava, kiwi, pummelo, quince, lychee fruits, passion fruit, pomegranate, kumquats, and ugli fruit.

There are thousands of different fruits and vegetables that exist in the world, and there’s something out there for almost every taste. If you haven’t tried some of these foods, you owe it to your heart to experiment with some of them to see if they can improve your healthy cholesterol.

If you’re going to stick to a healthy diet plan for the long term, then it’s important to get as much variety as possible so that your diet doesn’t become boring and monotonous. When you have a diet that’s rich in delicious foods and abundant in choices, you’re much more likely to be happy with it and stick to it.

You should make it a point to try at least one new type of fruit or vegetable every week. You’ll quickly discover some favorites that you can rotate in an out of your menus in order to keep things fun and prevent your diet from becoming stale. Start adding more fruits and vegetables to your diet now, and watch your cholesterol start to drop quickly!

Great health tips here. I find making a fruit smothie is one of the best way to get the daily allowance of fruit and you can even add a carrot, which is delicious.

My Mother instigated 2 fruits and 5 vegetables per day.

We have been using the same advice for the last 50 years.

May be increased fruit to 3 pieces per day.

Even doctor wanted to know our secret, so he could bottle and sell it.

Great hub from you thank you.I like your hub pointer

What is your secret, promise I will not sell it.

Grilling is a great low fat way to get your veggies and your fruits along with super flavors. So far this spring we've done tons of asparagus and sweet onions. Gave pineapple and pears a shot, not bad and of course corn-on-the-cob. Got a new recipe for grilling banana with chopped Mounds candy bars I am going to try on Father's Day weekend. Not low fat but how can it not be goooood?! Great Hub thanks for the info.

Diet can play an important role in lowering your cholesterol. Studies have shown that walnuts can significantly reduce blood cholesterol. Rich in polyunsaturated fatty acids, walnuts also help keep blood vessels healthy and elastic. Almonds and some other nuts appear to have a similar effect.

Hello, i am 15 and i never liked and still dont like any fruit or vegetable and i have no reaseon why and i am overweight by 80 or so pounds and i believe my chest pains are because of my cholestorol

Tyler, it's unlikely at your age to be cholesterol related but you should get to a Doctor so they can check you out at some stage soon. If you are 80 pounds overweight then your pains may be to do with your general health, you need to be getting regular exercise (which I imagine you might not be).
